Vacancy Harbour employee

As a Harbor Employee you assist by mooring vessels and carrying out maintenance tasks. You also operate and maintain heavy equipment and machinery that belongs to Unit Seaport, such as trucks, forklifts and others assigned to you. The harbor employee moves cargo using heavy equipment. You report to the Harbormaster and assist management if needed with other activities of similar - or lower rank within the line of work.


Your main responsibilities

  • Mooring vessels, moving cargo, maintaining heavy equipment – and the seaport as a maritime unit;
  • Oversee, check and move cargo and trailers using heavy equipment;
  • Offer assistance to all seaport clients;
  • Help perform inspections on vessels under supervision of the harbormaster;
  • Contribute - under supervision of the Harbor Master - to a clean and safe dock and marina and maintain the building;
  • Consult those involved concerning the measures to be taken;
  • Maintain registration concerning the use of the heavy equipment;
  • Check inventory of the necessary materials on a weekly basis and report to the  harbormaster;
  • Provide information concerning the proper procedures to those involved;

Job requirements

  • MBO level 3 diploma or equivalent;
  • Certification to operate – and experience with operating heavy machinery;
  • General knowledge of operating a forklift/forklift training;
  • In possession of a VHF license or willing to obtain it;
  • Valid driver’s license Category B and C;
  • Flexibility.


Competencies:

  • Professional knowledge of the use of heavy equipment, such as trucks, forklifts etc.;
  • Professional knowledge of the use of mooring lines and knots;
  • Knowledge of nautical terms;
  • Knowledge of maritime safety requirements and regulations;
  • Skill in performing various maintenance task to the building, dock, heavy equipment and other equipment;
  • Skill in customer-oriented communication;
  • Ability to keep - and maintain records.

Terms of employment
The position is temporary for a trial period of one year, with a prospect for permanent employment. The salary scaling is equivalent to scale 6 on the salary scale, with a minimum of $2,124.98 to a maximum of $3,016.30 gross monthly, based on a 36-hour work week.  However, being placed in start-up scale 4 or 5 (min. 2,035.25 and max. $2,638.82) is possible in the event of not fully complying with all requirements needed for the position This is in accordance with the salary table of the Statia Government dated 12 March 2024. Salary scaling is based on qualification and experience. In addition, this employee will receive a holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual income. The successful candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo medical evaluation.
