Vacancy Public Health Nurse/ SOA and HIV Coordinator.

As a Public Health Nurse, you ensure that local public health policies can be implemented into practical and applicable plans. This is done in accordance with the vision and program of OLE Public Health Care (PG) and the Social Domain master plan document "Strong roots" 2021 – 2025.

You carry out activities, programs, baby clinics and information campaigns. In addition, an important task is to support the community in learning healthy habits. You identify social developments and bottlenecks in the social domain such as chronic diseases, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), sexuality, substance abuse, breast cancer screening, Pap smears, glaucoma tests or diabetes screenings, etc. You give advice and make an action plan. You can provide information about available funds and advise on social support. You will be committed to the health needs of individuals. Think also of helping to collect data and help identify the health needs of St. Eustatius.    

Your main responsibilities:

  • Performs nursing - and medical related tasks; 
  • Interprets changes in clients’ living - and health situation, identifies further requests for help and, if necessary, makes referrals; 
  • Monitors the development of the mental - and physical health status on the island; 
  • Identifies psychological, physical and social-emotional problems of clients (young people, families/adults), offers help, and refers if necessary; 
  • Participates in internal case discussions and carries out administrative activities; 
  • Registers the effects of (social nursing) interventions, updates the research plan and keeps records; 
  • Conducts baby clinic, consultations, makes home visits, conducts specific research and carries out vaccination programs; 
  • Provides awareness and carries out campaigns on health and childhood development;
  • Informs clients and their relatives about social and nursing care, including improvement of the living, learning and health situation and acts as a confidential advisor;

Job requirements

  • Knowledge of - and skills with relevant methods and techniques in the context of care and guidance of clients and their relations;
  • Knowledge of - and (application) skills with protocols, procedures and regulations;
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in drawing up and implementing nursing and assistance plans;
  • Ability to interpret data, to prepare reports and advice and to provide explanations.

Job requirements

  • MBO level 4 diploma in nursing or equivalent; 
  • 2-5 years of experience in the field of work as a healthcare provider or in the medical work field; 
  • Valid type B driver's license. 
  • Basic knowledge of health laws and regulations. 
  • Communication skills in English and Dutch. 

Terms of employment
The position is temporary for a trial period of one year with the prospect of permanent employment.  The salary scaling is equivalent to scale 8 on the salary scale, with a minimum of $2,697.18 to a maximum of $3,773.43 gross monthly, based on a 36-hour work week. This is in accordance with the salary table of the Statia Government dated 12 March 2024. Salary scaling is based on qualification and experience. In addition, this employee will receive a holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual income. The successful candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo medical evaluation.
