The Directorate of Social Domain Statia wishes to contact Statia's next member of the Education Complaint Committee (BES).

Member – Education Complaint Committee BES (2024-2028)

What does the Education Complaint Committee (BES) do?

  • Problems can arise at school between: · parents of pupils and the primary/secondary school; ·
  • Pupils and the school;
  • Staff members of the school among themselves.

If they cannot resolve the matter, they can file a complaint with the Education Complaint Committee (BES). The Education Complaint Committee consists of a chairperson and at least two members, who the Kingdom representative appoints. Complaints can, for example, concern guidance at school, bullying, suspension of a pupil, etc. The Committee will then review the case and issue advice on the situation. The Complaint Committee provides solicited or unsolicited advice.

Qualities/Skills/Abilities

  •  Solution-oriented and passionate about equitable/impartial access to education
  •  Experience and expertise with the educational landscape of Statia  /BES islands
  •  Fluent in English (written and spoken), able to communicate in Dutch
  •  Organised and able to maintain a clear overview of activities and action points

Terms of membership

  •  The members and alternate members of the committee are appointed for four years and are immediately eligible for reappointment, provided that reappointment cannot take place more than twice. Members of the committee may resign at any time.
  •  The members of the Complaint Committee do not receive any compensation for their work. The costs associated with administration and holding hearings, possible travel and accommodation expenses and other costs related to the performance of the tasks are reimbursed by RCN/OCW on a declaration basis.
  •  Members of staff, educational leadership, as well as parents and pupils of a school, may not sit on the Complaint Committee.
