Vacancy Policy Employee Social Domain

The policy areas of the Social Domain Directorate are subdivided into Social; Culture & Education; Labor, Public Health and Social Support and Youth & Sports.  As the Policy Employee Social Domain, your main policy area focus is Social.

You contribute by staying abreast of all social developments in the work areas and policy framework, such as social security, livelihood security, public housing, poverty and social benefits. Based on developments, laws, the Strong Roots Masterplan and best practices you brainstorm new policies along with your colleagues and alter policy where necessary. You come up with plans of approach, development plans and contribute to projects.

Your main responsibilities

  • Develops and proposes the implementation of policy relating to social security, livelihood security, public housing, poverty and social benefits, among others;
  • Evaluates the bottlenecks in existing policy, tests the effectiveness and gives proposals for changes to policy where necessary;
  • Does research into the developments within the various social domain terrains described above and evaluate the relevance of these for the Public Entity Sint Eustatius;
  • Conducts preliminary consultations with stakeholders;
  • Gives advice on how to handle social issues;
  • Works closely with the managers of all units – and policy colleagues within the Social Domain Directorate to discuss and coordinate policy that needs to be developed;
  • Maintains close contact with the Ministries in the Netherlands and colleagues on other islands of the Dutch Caribbean.

Job requirements

  • HBO diploma in social work;
  • At least 3 years' experience in drawing up policy, advice and reports in the social work field;
  • Affinity with the Caribbean Netherlands and an understanding of the local circumstances and culture;
  • English and Dutch verbal and written proficiency;


Competencies:

  • Social involvement: having a great interest in social developments in the Statian community;
  • You are a person of integrity and will act in the interest of the community of Sint Eustatius;
  • You are proactive and able to estimate the political consequences of the policy;
  • Ability to give clear and objective advice.

Terms of employment
The position is temporary for a trial period of one year, with the prospect of permanent employment. We offer a salary between starting scale 9 or 10 and functional scale 11 with a minimum of $3,097.13 and a maximum of $5,356.37 gross monthly, based on a 36-hour work week.

The amounts above are according to the salary table of the Statia Government dated 12 March 2024. Salary scaling is based on qualifications and experience. In addition, this employee will receive a holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual income. The successful candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo medical evaluation. An assessment and reference check may be part of the selection process.
