Vacancy Policy Employee Sport, Social Support and Youth
The Directorate Social Domain is a broad work area responsible for many policy areas within the social field: Sport, Social Support and Youth; Culture and Education and Public Health and Labor. The Strong Roots Masterplan Social Domain forms the anchor on which policies and priorities are derived.
As the policy employee your main policy areas are sport, social support and youth. You contribute by staying abreast of the developments in these areas. Based on trends, developments, laws, the Strong Roots Masterplan and best practices you brainstorm new policies, alter policy where necessary and give advice. You create plans of approach, development plans and contribute to projects such as:
- The implementation of the Sports policy “Statia in Shape” and revitalization of the St. Eustatius Sports Federation Foundation in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sorts;
- The implementation of the Youth Policy, which is currently in development;
- Social Support (Maatschappelijke Ondersteuning (MO)) is the Caribbean Netherlands' version of the Wet Maatschappelijke Ondersteuning (or WMO as it is called in European Netherlands). As policy advisor you will be responsible for the coordination of the execution of this program.
Your main responsibilities
- Works closely with the managers of the relevant units within the Social Domain Directorate to discuss and coordinate policy that needs to be developed in the specific policy area;
- Develops and proposes the implementation of policy in the areas sport, social support and youth on Sint Eustatius;
- Evaluates the bottlenecks in policy, tests the effectiveness and gives proposals for changes to policy where necessary;
- Does research into the developments in the areas of Sport, Social Support and Youth and evaluate the relevance of these for the Public Entity Sint Eustatius;
- Conducts preliminary consultations with stakeholders;
- Gives advice on how to handle social issues within your field of work;
- Maintains close contact with the Ministries in the Netherlands and colleagues on other islands of the Dutch Caribbean.
Job requirements
- HBO diploma in a social work field;
- 3 years' experience in a similar position;
- Experience in drawing up policy, advice and reports;
- Experience in the topics sport, social support and youth;
- Affinity with the Caribbean Netherlands and an understanding of the local circumstances and culture;
- English and Dutch verbal and written proficiency;
Competencies:
- Social involvement: having a great interest in social developments in the Statian community;
- You are a person of integrity and will act in the interest of the community of Sint Eustatius;
- You are proactive and able to estimate the political consequences of the policy;
- Ability to give clear and objective advice.
Terms of employment
The position is temporary for a fixed period of one year. The salary scaling is equivalent to scale 11 on the salary scale, with a minimum of $4,118.50 to a maximum of $5,356.37 gross monthly, based on a 36-hour work week. The amounts above are according to the salary table of the Statia Government dated 12 March 2024. Salary scaling is based on qualifications and experience. In addition, this employee will receive a holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual income. The successful candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo medical evaluation. An assessment and reference check may be part of the selection process.
