Why is it important to vote for the island council elections tomorrow, wednesday october 21st?
By voting you will have a say in the formation of the new island council… and this is important because the island council will get the majority of its authorities and tasks back when it is installed on the 29th of October 2020.
Please see below an overview of the authorities that will be restored to the island council after the elections:
- Right to ask questions and call for an emergency debate
- Provision for introduction of motions in rules of procedure
- Adoption of ordinances (autonomous and delegated competences)
- Right to amend legislation
- Right to initiate legislation
With this, the Island Council will get many of its responsibilities back. Only a few of the responsibilities will not yet be given back. These are:
- The Right of inquiry
- The Powers and tasks under the FINBES
- Decisions affecting the legal status of civil servants employed by the registrar office
These will be restored in a later phase. We will frequently inform you about this.
