Island Council St. Eustatius installed
The ceremonious occasion of the official installation of the 5 Island Council members took place on October 29th 2020, at the Ernest van Putten Youth Center (Lions Den).
This is the first Island Council in St. Eustatius after the administrative intervention by the Netherlands in 2018.
The 5 elected members are: Ms. Rechelline Leerdam (PLP), Mr. Reuben Merkman (PLP), Mr. Clyde van Putten (PLP), Ms. Adelka Spanner (DP) and Mr. Koos Sneek (DP).
Due to the emergency ordinance, the persons allowed to attend the event was limited to a maximum of 50 persons. That is why the Public Entity arranged that people can watch the entire ceremony on the Facebook page of the Government (live streaming) and on all the radio stations.
After the official installation of the elected members of the Island Council for the period 2020-2023, each member was requested to come forward to take their oath or promise as a member of the Island Council. This was done in English. After the members took their oath, chairman Mr. Marnix van Rij congratulated the members and welcomed them to the Island Council for the government period 2020-2023. Each member then had the opportunity to say a few words.

After the official closing of the ceremony, there was time for the anthem, congratulations and group pictures.
