The Statia Government recently exported nearly 5,000 lbs of meat to Nevis. Smaller amounts were also exported to St. Barths, St. Maarten and St. Martin

The 4861 lbs of meat exported to Nevis came from the enforcement of the General Local Ordinance (see the link below) and meat from the farmers.

The recent shipment was the second consignment of meat since COVID-19 forced a halt in shipments in 2020.  In March of this year, a total of 5000 pounds of meat was exported to Nevis, marking the return of the trade between the two islands as the Agriculture Department of Nevis and Statia’s Veterinary Services Unit resumed collaboration.

The removal of roaming animals is part of the Nature and Environment Policy Plan BES (NEPP). This is a ten-year programme that provides an integrated framework, addressing responsibility, policy targets, and legal obligations related to managing the natural environment.
