Statia Government Intensifies Efforts Against Illegal Dumping
The Executive Council of Statia convened an emergency meeting to address the growing issue of illegal dumping, particularly near the runway strip and other key locations. Representatives from the Governor’s Cabinet, Island Secretary, Unit Licenses, Supervision and Enforcement (VTH), the Department of Economy, Nature and Infrastructure (ENI), Communication, and Public Works attended the discussions.
A comprehensive action plan is now in development to strengthen enforcement and implement more suitable waste disposal solutions, including options for construction waste. The dialogue focused on curbing illegal dumping through targeted enforcement and improving waste management practices to prevent further environmental damage.
As part of these efforts, a meeting will be scheduled with construction companies regarding the matter and how they can contribute to improving the situation. Their involvement is crucial in ensuring proper disposal practices and reducing waste accumulation in unauthorized areas.
Additionally, a follow-up meeting will be held among government stakeholders to ensure continued action and oversight. Further details on the action plan will be announced in due course.
