Commissioner Rechelline Leerdam Embarks on Official Working Visit

Commissioner of Youth and Sport Rechelline Leerdam is off-island for an official working visit. This trip covers multiple countries, with a focus on governance, sustainable development, youth and sports, cultural heritage, and waste management.

In the Netherlands, Commissioner Leerdam joined the Island Council delegation for meetings with the First and Second Chambers and the State Secretary. Alongside faction leaders from the BES islands, discussions centred on the WolBES and FinBES legislation. Meetings were also held with various ministries to discuss key Statia-related matters.

Leerdam also attended a Sustainable Transport and Mobility Workshop in the Azores, Portugal, hosted by Green Overseas, with representatives from STUCO, ENI, and the Social Domain. The delegation participated in discussions on eco-friendly transport solutions and met with key stakeholders.

Commissioner Leerdam also attended The Nationale Carrièrebeurs at the Amsterdam RAI, where she joined the Personnel and Organization team to promote opportunities for professionals interested in contributing to Statia’s development.

Later in the month, Leerdam will engage in cultural heritage discussions in Curaçao, accompanied by the Director of Culture and the Heritage Inspector.

This visit strengthens Statia’s ties with international partners and explores solutions for the island's continued development.
