Changes to Health Insurance Benefits for Statia Starting 1 January 2025

The Care and Youth Caribbean Netherlands (ZJCN) has announced updates to the health insurance benefits for Statia residents, effective from 1 January 2025. These changes are meant to make healthcare easier to access and more suited to the needs of the community.

Starting in 2025, people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) will get full coverage for exercise therapy with no limit on the number of sessions. However, ZJCN approval is required. Additionally, those with serious mobility issues due to rheumatoid arthritis will also receive full coverage for exercise therapy, subject to ZJCN’s approval.

Rehabilitation care for older people, known as geriatric rehabilitation, will be covered, and a specialist will decide if this care is necessary. Policyholders aged 18 or older who are in life-threatening situations can bring a second companion during medical transfers, with prior approval from ZJCN.

In 2025, companions for medical transfers will need to pass an assessment to ensure they can provide practical and emotional support. Lastly, the 'best ear' rule for hearing loss coverage will be removed, meaning coverage for hearing aids will no longer depend on which ear has better hearing.
