About The Rock
Early Family Support, Youth Work, and Compulsory Education
Early Family Support
The Rock is a government service in St Eustatius offering Early Family Support, helping children and families with advice and guidance tailored to their needs. A pedagogical advisor works with schools to support children, teachers, and parents, addressing social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Families can access support through daycare centres, schools, baby clinics, or by contacting Ms Monica Smith (monica.smith@statiagov.com) or Ms Natalia Maniati (natalia.maniati@statiagov.com) at +599 318-2665.
Youth Work
Youth Work is open to all young people, particularly those in high-risk situations. It complements existing services and focuses on prevention, social development, and youth activities to guide young people towards responsible adulthood. Youth workers engage directly with young people in their own environments and collaborate with organisations to promote youth participation.
The Rock also provides Extra Educational Support for students and parents, offering advice on furthering studies in Europe or the region.
For more details on Youth Work, Youth Participation, or Education, contact Ms Curdi Lewis at curdi.lewis@statiagov.com or +599 319-5919.
Compulsory Education
Since 1 August 2007, the Compulsory Education Law requires all parents to ensure that children aged 4 to 18 attend school regularly, regardless of gender, status, or religion. Regular attendance is essential for educational success.
For information on the Compulsory Education Law BES, parents can contact the Compulsory Education Officer, Ms Nadjesca Henriquez, at +599 318-2665 / +599 318-8185 or nadjesca.henriquez@statiagov.com.
UNICEF and Child Development Initiatives
The Rock is also a key point for UNICEF programmes, including the Child-Friendly City initiative and the “Raising Our Future” campaign. These initiatives raise awareness, protect children's rights, and provide parents with resources to support their children’s development.
