Compulsory Education
Legal Requirement for School Attendance
Under the Compulsory Education Law BES, all parents and guardians must ensure that their children attend school regularly. Since 1 August 2007, the law has required that all children, regardless of gender, legal status, or religion, between the ages of 4 and 18 must be enrolled in and attend school consistently.
Importance of Regular Attendance
Consistent and punctual school attendance is essential for a child’s education, development, and future opportunities. Regular attendance ensures continuity in learning and contributes to overall academic success.
Responsibilities of Parents, Students, and Schools
The Compulsory Education Law BES outlines specific responsibilities for parents, students, and schools. These obligations must be upheld to ensure compliance with the law.
Enforcement and Supervision
The Executive Council of Sint Eustatius oversees adherence to the Education Law BES. A Compulsory Education Officer has been appointed to monitor compliance and address any concerns related to school attendance.
