Central Committee Meetings
The Central Committee reviews and advises on proposals and other important topics before they go to the Island Council for a final decision. Island Council members discuss and refine these issues to ensure informed decision-making. Meetings may be public or private, depending on the agenda.
Central Committee Members
The Central Committee consists of five (5) Island Council members. The independent chairman of the committee is Glenville Schmidt, an Island Council member.
Role of the Central Committee
The Central Committee helps shape the Island Council’s agenda and decisions. It reviews and advises on important topics, questions the Executive Council on relevant issues, ensuring accountability and addresses current matters affecting the island.
Participation for Residents
Residents can take part in public Central Committee meetings and speak on most agenda items. To do so, advance registration is required. Residents must send an email to the registrar at least two (2) days prior to the meeting date to secure their spot.
Public meetings are also streamed live on the Statia Government Facebook page.
Meeting Guidelines
- Dress Code: Appropriate clothing and footwear are required for everyone, including council members, committee members, guests, and visitors.
- Mobile Phone Use: The use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited within the legislative hall and the public gallery. Phones must be switched off or set to silent mode during the meeting.
